How Can Yellow Discoloration On The Nails Be Treated?

Hello I am wanting to know what i can do before i have to see a doctor? I am 40 years old I am diabetic and i have fugal toe nails. I think I am getting an infection on one of them because it hurts really bad and is really red at the top of my nail. They are yellowish color and really thick. Is there something over the counter that i can try first?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Possibility of fungal nail infection due to uncontrolled diabetes is more likely in your case.
First of all, strict control of diabetes is needed.
You can apply antifungal creams (soframycin, nystatin, fluconazole). These are mostly available over the counter.
You need to apply it for 5-6 months.
Foot hygiene is also very important for faster recovery. Wash your foot with warm water thrice daily. Avoid bare foot walking.
If not improving then it is advisable to consult doctor.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
