Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter slipped in a Porta potty and hit her face on the toilet seat, cutting her lip open. The bleeding has stopped and she us no longer screaming in pain, but I am concerned with the diseases she may have come in contact with. Should I bring her in?
Well there are a number of infectious organisms that can be found on toilet seat but many of them die within seconds as they get exposed to air..
But if she has got her lip cut and if the open wound has come in contact with toilet seat then there can be chances of Infection but still not necessary..
For now you can keep the wound clean and use antiseptic liquid to clean it and apply antiseptic ointment.. If there is a need of Stitches better get it done by an emergency room.. A short script of antibiotics can also be advised..
If you are fearful you can get a swab culture from the wound done along with a blood test to rule out Infection after a week..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
