How Can Varicose Veins And Edema In The Lower Legs Be Treated?

E-mail: YYYY@gmail,com I am a nurse with varicose and spider veins and I get edema in ankles and lower legs from sitting or standing for prolonged periods. Edema goes away when lie down. Compression hose help some, but not with long hours. I take Rx meds: Low dose aspirin; pantoprazole; plavix; losartan; carvedilol; lipitor; metformin; glipizide Hx of: mild MI (stent placement main artery for blockage) heart function fine now , Stage 1 CVA (stent Left carotid), hypertenion, Type II diabetes. Meds, exercise, and diet changes all working fine and keeping labs and functions within normal limits. I have talked to several people that take CIRCULATION AND VEIN SUPPORT from Andrew Lessman s vitamin/mineral formulas and they say it really helps with edema and soreness. I can t find any interactions with any of Rx s I take, but most interaction checklists do not have everything listed and my regular MD s say are not sure because they don t know enough about herbs and supplements. The dosage is 2 capsules daily with following amounts per serving: Vitamin C 30mg; Diosmin 600mg; Hesperidin 100mg; Rutin 20mg; Grape Seed extract 40mg; Pine Bark 40mg; Butcher s Broom 40mg. Are there any ingredients in this supplement that would be contraindicated with my Rx meds or because I had a mild MI, ischemic stroke, or have stents. Thank You Beverly Blanton

Prolonged standing when you have varicose veins can cause edema of the legs and feet. The best way to prevent it, though temporarily is by using grade 2 compression stockings toes to mid thigh, to be worn in the morning when the edema is minimal and wear it all day long, and remove it while going to sleep. Permanent management is by surgical laser ablation of the varicose veins and the incompetent perpetrators. Your other conditions or treatments would not interfere with this surgical management.
