How Can Urinary Incontinence While On Radiation Therapy Be Treated?

My wife is incontinent due to radiation putting a hole in the bladder that cannot be repaired. She started throwing up and was bent over in pain so I took her to the emergency room at Froedert Hospital to get checked out. They said she has a high white blood count and are treating that. Now she is having trouble breathing so they put her on a ventilator and a tube down her throat. The doctor told is was a infection that is causing all the problems. He said the blood disorder was Keptitus or something like that. What are the chances she will survive this ordeal?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Radiation may cause mucositis or edema lately lead to fibrosis of bladder. Incontinence may be due to sphincter weakness or bladder wall became inflammed or due to Infection.
If she is on ventilator means need to put Foley's catheterization, need to start antibiotics , may need blood cultures, urine culture and endotracheal tube secretions to be cultured.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
