Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I found a couple of tiny tonsil stones (rice sized) after investigating a feeling of a lump in my throat when I swallow, I removed them with a cotton swab. Was wondering if this is dangerous to have removed them this way? Are stones of this size and of few quantity normal? Applied some pressure and they popped right out. No pain with them in or after/during removal. Also I feel like there is a tonsil stone on the backside of my tonsil, but im not able to see behind it- how should I go about investigating the existence of one there? Thanks!
Tonsil stones or Tonsilloliths are small calcified structures that are formed when food debris gets accumulated deep into tonsillar crypts and gets calcified.. As you have tonsil stones then they can be gently removed using a q-tip and if you are not able to remove them you can get them removed by a physician.. To reduce the formation of the tonsil stones you can gargle regularly using hydrogen peroxide and water.. Gargle after eating anything.. Drink plenty of water.. Limit intake of dairy as they are high in calcium..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
