How Can Throat Ache And Sinusitis Be Treated?

My Nurse Practitioner prescribed Minocycline HCL 100 MG for severe sore throat with those spots behind my tonsils that look like mini cotton balls and for a sinus infection. This is my 3rd day and I still feel bad and my throat hurts and doesn t look any better. I had never been prescribed this antibiotic before, do you think it was the best choice? She didn t do a strep smear, but she did sinus X-rays.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to the health care magic

You are having acute pharyngitis infection.
Associated sinusitis might be present.

For that antibiotic course prescribed like cefixime or Amoxiclav.
Minocyclin usually not prescribed for that.

Decongestant like phenylephrine or levocetrizine also need to be prescribed.

Investigate with CBC also.

If needed Azelestin like nasal spray can be prescribed

Take care

Hope this will help you

Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination and discuss your case
