Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been given ear drops for swimmers ear, however after 2 days of using it my ear is blocked by a white fluid (it looks hard, I can’t describe it, most people on the internet call it fluid). What is this? How can I get rid of this? My ear also still hurts, does that mean I still have swimmers ear?
Swimmers ear is an infection of outer ear canal and it can commonly be due to infection caused by water that remains in ear after swimming.. It can cause bacterial overgrowth in moisture..
White fluid can be due to pus discharge that can occur secondary to infection..
So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room or an ENT Physician and get evaluated..
First of all the ear will be cleaned and irrigated with antiseptic solution.
It will be followed by a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers and antiseptic and analgesic ear drops..
You should also avoid swimming and moisture accumulation as it can worsen the infection..
Hope this helps.
Regards..
