How Can Swelling In The Throat Be Treated?

Good evening. I went to urgent care yesterday because I thought I had strep throat. My uvula was swollen, and my throat was so sore that I could barely swallow. I m now 1.5 days on antibiotics, and I m still in a lot of pain swallowing. I found a new large pus pocket on the side of my throat, and it popped, and it was crazy the amount of drainage and blood that came out of it. This was not there yesterday when I visited the urgent care. My tonsils were removed when I was a kid. Is this normal for strep throat, or should I check with my doctor tomorrow? They currently have me on amoxicillin and prednesolone. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I undrstand your concern.
A fulminent infection is one of the charactors of strepticoccal throat infection. You seem to have toncillar abscess which could be streptococcal in origine. Confirmation possible only after throat swab.
You can continue with amoxicillin with some NSAID over the counter. Continue doing hplot saline gargles to clean the area.
In case there is no resolution after rupture of the abscess/if the symptoms increase or there is fever consult ENTfor specific management.
Thanks.
