How Can Surgical Stitches Around The Eyes Be Treated?

I just had bilateral upper skin removal from both eyes yesterday and have gauze strip patches covering stitches on both eye lids. i was instructed to apply provided ointment 2x a day but am unclear as to where to apply (under gauze, on gauze, around gauzed)??? I have reached out to physicians office multiply times with no reply. Can you please advise?

You have to apply ointment twice daily over the stich and change gouze each day.
