How Can Strep Throat Be Treated?

Ello, I have been on my 2nd course of antibiotics since I got strep again (Most likely because I didn't change my toothbrush as I was never instructed to.) The first antibiotic I took was amoxicillin, which went into effect within a couple of days. Now I am on Clarithromycin 10ml oral for 10 days like amoxicillin. I have been taking this for the past 3 days twice a day but have not been seeing very many results like I did with amoxicillin. I also have a loss of voice, not sure if this is caused by Strep or not. Any clue on the steps I should take, or if I should continue with what was prescribed?

Hi,

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from recurring throat infection or strep throat, and loss of voice is due to inflammation of vocal cords secondary to infection known as Laryngitis.

I would suggest you to continue taking Clarithromycin and along with it take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do warm saline gargles. Do steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room. Suck throat lozenges. In case of no improvement consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
