How Can Small Red Bumps On The Palm Be Treated?

My 17 year old son has developed small red knotty looking bumps under his skin on the palms if his hands, mostly along the joint lines of his fingers. I initially guessed callouses from weight lifting, but the skin isn t toughened or thick. He has some discomfort but no itching.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history your son is probably having pompholyx, my treatment advice is -

1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm B cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an antihistamine medication like Levocetirizine twice daily for 7-10 days.
4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
