How Can Side Effects Of Sulfamethoxazole Be Treated?

I have an infected nail bed on my thumb. Have been prescribed sulfamethoxazole-TMP DS Tablet to be taken 1 every 12 hours. I since while taking this med. have developed symptoms that have caused me to discontinue the meds. Some swelling had gone down but still have trobbing pain off and on and thumb is very sore. Would be grateful for your help .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should continue the antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor to fight the infection.
Also you may use anti-inflammatory drugs such as advil or acetaminophen for pain and swelling.
It may take a week to get better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
