General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First of all, it's sad to know what your acquaintance had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, He needs supplements and brain tonics like ginkgo biloba, vitamin D3, B12, B6 and folic acid as well as zinc and calcium.

A neurological examination and MMS score needs to be evaluated. IQ testing is another way. Brain imaging may be needed to rule out any structural cause. If neurological causes are ruled out and problems persist a psychiatric review may also be helpful to rule out non organic causes.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
