How Can Severe Urinary Incontinence After Prostate Removal Surgery Be Treated?

My incontinence began with a surgical removal of my prostate about a year ago. I have had Physical Therapy with training to control my pelvic floor with kagle exercises. These have ben helpful, but... I do still need pads to control small leakage during stress – cough, twist. I m not happy about this, but getting used to it. What is really bugging me is the sudden release of whatever volume of urine is in my bladder. Yesterday, I had a nice lunch and when walking back to the car – I filled my pad. Whenever I get tired, I get cramps (I call them menstrual as that is the location of them) and then shortly after I get uncontrolled release. I am taking a diuretic from my heart MD, and taking a OAB pill. They seem to help, but are not as effective as I want. I can t walk as far as I want - getting fatigued in 50 yards. Last year, I did a 5 mile hike three times per week. Now I cant make it across the parking lot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Urinary incontinence is common along women after 50 and usually is caused by urinary infections or weakened pelvic floor. This is also a common and often embarrassing problem. If overreactive or incontinent bladder affects your daily activities, don't hesitate to see your doctor. For most people, simple lifestyle changes or medical treatment can ease discomfort. It is treated with specific medications, pelvic floor muscles exercises, electric stimulation of bihevioral treatment and in most cases this is adequate for incontinence control. If Cystitisis a cause as an bacterial infection then it must be treated with antibiotics..Surgical options are reserved for severe and intractable cases.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
