How Can Severe Spinal Stenosis Be Treated?

My 90 year old mother has severe spinal stenosis. She takes Gabapentin (I know I m not going to spell these correctly), Traumadal, and Tylenol. I m thinking that adding some turmeric to her daily intake could be helpful. Can you suggest an amount to take?

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The type of treatment you receive for spinal stenosis may vary, depending on the location of the stenosis and the severity of your signs and symptoms.Treatment options may include:
-Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like tylenol
-Muscle relaxants like miorel
-Antidepressants
-Anti-seizure drugs like gabapentin
-Opioids like oxycodone
-Steroid injections ocassionally
-Surgery like Laminectomy, Laminotomy, Laminoplasty.
Many treatment options may be used at a time for better results. This is however the decision of your Doctor.
Tumeric has been reported to help reduce pain in osteoarthritis. However, its analgesic effect may not be good enough for her pain given the fact that she is already on higher classes of pain drug like gabapentin.
I will suggest she continues with her drugs as prescribed by the Doctor and adopt the following home measures:
*Hot or cold packs
*Good Diet/nutrition
*Canes or walkers(assistive devices)
Hope this will help
Best regards
