How Can Severe Pain While Suffering From Chronic Lymphedema Be Treated?

I am about to begin using Santyl for chronic lymphedema with draining wounds / lesions, eolitc. Currently have been using vasoline only and wrapping them only. I started Silvadene ointment tonight. the pain level is 10 plus and has been at this level for over a month. My concern is the pain level increasing with the use of Santyl . I see this can be a side effect from other patients who wrote reviews. Is there anything I can do toj minimize this potential pain level? Im not sure I could tolerate much more c

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Lymphedema related pain is usually chronic in nature. So routine painkiller drugs will nothing affect. You can try centrally acting painkiller drugs like Tramadol. You can also try Pregabalin or Gabapentin. Since all these are prescribed drugs, you need doctor's prescription for them. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these. Limb elevation is also beneficial.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
