Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe right foot pain caused from lymphoma in 2010 which was in my right pelvis and damaged the sciatic nerve at the sciatic notch. I have been on opiod medication for the pain but I have recently switched pain management doctors and have been scheduled for a nerve block in the near future. I have had a bone scan in the recent past which indicated osteopenia and necrosis on the left femur head probably due to steroids over the years..my question is.. should I avoid steroids when I get the nerve block and ask for a alcohol or phenol injection? Thanks.
* As per my clinical experience, the pain of this severity indicate severe nerve compression or other sensory elements.
* The different modalities of nerve block, laser therapy or else would give fine results.
* Steroids should be best avoided during the procedure for better immune response.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
