How Can Severe Pain In The Hips Be Treated?

I have an aortic valve replacement, and 4 stents implanted (Nov. 2015). I am on clopidegral and baby aspirin daily. I need a hip replacement, and I am suffering seriously (bone-on-bone). I am using ibuprofen, but it doesn t seem to work. My cardiologist wants me to stay on the blood thinners for probably a year. My questions are: 1- should I get off the ibuprofen? 2- Is the year (8 more months) realistic?

Hello,

Blood thinners have to be continued for at least one year to prevent clot formation. You can take analgesics like Tramadol instead of ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is not recommended for long term use.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
