How Can Severe Osteoporosis Be Treated?

In 1976, I underwent a Ileal-Jejuno bypass surgery for morbid obesity. I now have severe osteoporosis, and my primary care wants to give me Prolia. FDA website regarding this drug says those with acquired short bowel syndrome should not be given Prolia. Why not?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Prolia can cause low levels of calcium.

Persons with a short bowel can have poor absorption and therefore poor levels of calcium which would then be worsened by the prolia.

This is the reason that it cannot be used.

I hope this helps
