How Can Severe Itchiness All Over The Body Be Treated?

Yes, for over a year I have been having severe skin problems mainly on my arms, legs, head. I had biopsy which showed Prurigo Nodularis. I have seen 3 dermatologists. I have every ointment, cream, Kenalog injection, Doxepin, Vistaril, Benadryl & nothing has helped. I literally itch constantly. I am receiving Prolia injections for osteoporosis q 6 months. Could this be causing this? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello,

Denosumab (Prolia) have shown a rash and pruritus in a subset of patients on this medication. Despite having medications like antihistamines and steroids to help ease the itchiness and causing no relief, I suggest you consult your doctor giving the denosumab (Prolia) for a possible shifting to another alternative which causes itchiness.

On the other hand, your Prurigo Nodularis itself has a variable response to anti-itch medications and taking steroids chronically will worsen your osteoporosis. It is imperative to keep your skin moist as excessive dryness will also cause itchiness. Also, using mild soaps without fragrances will help keep your skin free of irritants which also causes itchiness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Daryl Derick B. Dizon,
