Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Severe Edema In The Legs And Feet Be Treated?
My wife has severe edema in both legs and feet. Has progressed to ascites. Recently stopped long term imuran and tapered off of prednisone. Doctor prescribed 20 mg lasix. No effect. Wouldn t up dosage or switch drugs. Any thoughts? They also said kidneys are okay no protein in urine
Based on your description, it appears that your wife might be having problems with heart functioning or hypoproteinemia. Also, intake of medications like Prednisolone could also contribute to edema.
She needs to be evaluated clinically by Physician so that the underlying cause can be known and treated accordingly. Since the edema has been progressing, it should not be ignored as it can land up in complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
