How Can Severe Cough Be Treated?

Helo Sir, Am suffering from cough from 2-3 years in the gap of 4 month - it will be severe cough not able to sleep - it will me more when i will be in sleeping position. if the cough is not there my chest is clear then there will be running nose always.I refereed doctor he prescribed some heavy antibiotics and steroids - previously this medicines were working - but now from last six month medicines are not working. Please Suggest to which specialist i need to consult. I will be veryhelpful for your guidance - Thanks in Advance Md Yassin Khan 0000 Bangalore

Hi,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe cough which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection or poor immunity of body. Need not to worry. Avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. Avoid intake of sharp spicy food. You should apply mist humidifiers in room and take throat lozenges. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription. You can go for blood and sputum tests as well. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medications. You should maintain oral hygiene. Do warm saline gargles.
