How Can Runny Nose And Sneezing Be Treated While Suffering From HIV?

i was diagnosed hiv+ a year and a half ago. For the last 2 days, I ve had a horrible runny nose and sneezing. Other than those two symptoms, I ve not felt bad besides tired (which is normal for me). I m hoping it s just a sinus or allergy problem...is that possible. I m 46 years old, and went undiagnosed for 10-12 years. Besides the problems leading up to diagnosis, wasting and thrush, I ve not had too many medical problems in the past. I guess that s why I m concerned whether this is sinus/allergy related or hiv related.

Hi,

A runny nose and sneezing can be due to common cold, allergy or can be due to a sinus infection.

Increased probability of infections is due to reduced immunity in HIV positive individuals.

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated.

Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a lukewarm solution.

Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti-allergic Levocetirizine.

Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily, Do steam inhalations. Avoid spicy and chilled foods, sip on warm water throughout the day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
