Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You had depression during pregnancy and now after 9 months the symptoms recurred. In most of cases of depression the depressive symptoms occur in episodes. Depression is a mood disorder and the symptoms occur in episodes so individuals suffering from depression are advised to take treatment of depression for long durations of time. The drugs commonly used for such depressive symptoms are SSRIs and these drugs are usually advised to be taken for at least 6 months to 1 years after remission of symptoms. The duration of that maintenance treatment increases with increase in episodes. So to prevent recurring depression you have to take treatment for long durations. Don't stop the treatment against advise of your doctor.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
