How Can Post Nasal Drip Along With Throat Congestion Be Treated?

I have bad post nasal drip with throat congestion. I recently went to a doctor, and he told me that I have allergies and that I should try Flonase. However, I am nervous to use a nasal steroid because of the side effects. Is there a natural remedy for post nasal drip and throat congestion-due to allergies? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Use Saline nasal spray to clear nasal passage and it has no side effects at all.

2)Discuss with your doctor about preventive antibiotics like [doxycycline]

3)Add one teaspoon of salt and 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide in a glass of distilled warm water. Use this solution for nasal irrigation using a bulb syringe.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Try to avoid upper respiratory infections. Minimize contact with people who have colds. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially before your meals.

2)Carefully manage your allergies. Work with your doctor to keep symptoms under control.

3)Try to avoid cigarette smoke and polluted air. Tobacco smoke and other pollutants can irritate and inflame your lungs and nasal passages.

4)Use a humidifier. If the air in your home is dry, such as it is if you have forced-air heat, adding moisture to the air may help prevent throat irritations. Be sure the humidifier stays clean and free of mold with regular, thorough cleaning.

Hope that helps
