How Can Pain Under The Rib Cage Be Treated?

I have pain on my side, under the rib cage. Could it be from golf? What can I do to make it better? I stopped playing golf for a week, the pain was gone, but I practiced my drives today and it hurts again. Is rest the right thing? How long would I need to lay off?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. As the symptoms are waxing and waning of pain consulting a chest specialist for X-ray chest [to exclude complication arising from rib fracture like pneumothorax, surgical emphysema, chest infection], should be excluded, till then

- chest strapping: shave the hair over lower half of the chest.Apply Tincture Benzoin. Apply 2 broad strips of sticking plaster around the injured chest for 3/4 circle [do not wrap it too tight otherwise it stops the lung from expanding and may lead to pneumonia]

- Injection Fortwin 1 cc IM: 1-2 times a day thereafter Capsule proxyvon [analgesic]: 1 thrice daily

- Tablet osteocalcium [calcium]: 1 twice daily

- For recurrent pain: intercostal nerve block, posteriorly, under the lower rib margin.
