General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thank you for using healthcaremagic.

I understand your concern about the condition. The scrotum is quite a loose tissue area. Any kind of trauma or surgery in this area or its vicinity can cause a lot of fluid collection in the scrotum which also affects the penis. It is similar to when there is trauma to the structures above the eye, still the eye gets swollen.

After a surgery for inguinal hernia the inflammation can stay for about a week. I'm sure the treating surgeon must have provided anti inflammatory medication. Along with the ice packs, you can put a wad of thick tightly packed piece of cloth between the thighs and just behind the scrotum. This should help to reduce the inflammation.

I hope you have a fast recovery from the surgery.

I hope I have been able to answer your query with adequate information. If you have any other queries or follow up questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks again.
