How Can Pain And Spasms In The Arms Be Treated?

My mother is 67 yrs old. Very active and strong until around a month ago. Started with one arm and severe muscle pain and spasms. Went to the other arm as well. After that it went into her back. Now it s in her legs. So she has all over muscle spasms. Her muscle use has diminished and then sleep. We are suspecting line disease, but all Lyme disease test come back negative. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Severe muscle pain and spasms at your mother's age (67) could be due to myopathy issues.
As she has been very active and strong until around a month ago, then, it could be something with acute onset (due to any virus she has passed through prior to muscle spasms or due to lack or minerals/vitamins).

Blood tests should be run together with a balance of minerals/vitamins.
If nothing, then, muscle biopsy is necessary to determine the right diagnosis together with EMG study.

Hope this helps.
