How Can Occipital Neuralgia Be Treated?

Occipital neuralgia is the diagnosis that my husband was give in early July 2016 after battling headaches since March 2016. He has tried multiple treatment modalities over the past several months including: occipital nerve blocks, Lyrica, Occipital nerve ablation, Zonegran, now on verapimil (can not take Topamax as he has frequent kidney stones). He is also having physical therapy sessions twice a week which started in December. We live in and have sought help in the Montgomery area, but I think we may need a second opinion after battling this issue for almost a year now. I am grateful for any advice and appreciate your time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

He can try higher end analgesics like Oxycodone or Hydrocodone for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated.

Newer techniques like occipital nerve ablation can also be tried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
