How Can Neuropathy In The Hands Be Treated?

REGARDING ALPHA LIPOIC ACID AND DIABETIC NEUROPATHY: WebMD INFORMATION SAYS High doses of alpha-lipoic acid are approved in Germany for the treatment of these symptoms. MY QUESTION IS - WHAT ARE THE ACTUAL HIGH DOSES IN GERMANY REFERRED TO IN ABOVE STATEMENT? I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THE NEUROPATHY IN MY HANDS, AS IT IS TOUGH TO EVEN BUTTON MY SHIRTS WITHOUT LOOKING IN THE MIRROR WHILE DOING THAT NORMALLY SIMPLE TASK!

Hello,

Alpha lipoic acid is a new drug (supplemet) tried to treat diabetic neuropathy and studies show improvement of symptoms in patients but it is still in the experimental stage and more studies and time is needed to make sure of this effect.

The dose used in studies is generally 600 mg a day for a few months. On the other hand you have to be aware that you still need to have good control of the glucose levels so the neuropathy does not worsen. Studies show that patients feel better with alpha lipoic acid use but the nerve conduction tests and test that check the nerve function shown no improvement so it means it does not regenerate the nerve but helps control the symptoms so good treatment of diabetes is still crucial.

I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
