Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can physical therapy help my neuropathy? I was doing well with a couple of sessions a week, but then I went to an exercise class and later spent too much time on my feet cooking. Now I m trying to get back to normal. I ve been told I have very mild neuropathy but I don t want it to get any worse. I m 70 years old and was very active but have to be very careful with walking too far or the burning comes back. Any suggestions?
Yes,physical therapy can be used for relief from neuropathy. Along with physical therapy, diathermy will help you with consultation from physiotherapist. Taking analgesics like acetaminophen twice a day and local massage may help you to ease out with pain of neuropathy. If pain still persists, you may required narcotic analgesics or anticonvulsant drugs like gabapentin . (prescription drug) You may also require investigations like serum vitamin B 12 levels ,nerve conduction studies to rule out other possible causes of neuropathy. Healthy diet and adequate hydration required for general well being.
Hope I answered your query. Feel free to ask any more doubt
