General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Diverticulitis is often associated with acute flare ups. The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in lower right pelvic area as in your case.

In cases of flare up, I highly recommend to:
- stay of clear liquids for a few days until flare up is over (e.g. water, fruit juice without pulp, broth, gelatin, ice chips/pops, tea/coffee without cream)
- then, slowly add low-fiber foods/drinks : eggs, poultry, fish, canned fruits/vegetables, dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese); etc.
- take paracetamol for pain; spasmex or buscopan can help but need prescription
- white pasta/bread, etc.
- apply warm pads on your tummy especially on the area where you feel the pain

Antibiotics can also be used to treat infection. Ciprofloxacin is one of them. However, metronidazole can be added to the therapy.

Probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora and tasectan or pepto bismol to control diarrhea.

In severe case, if this won't help, then, iv fluid replacement therapy recommended.

Wish fast recovery.
