How Can Muscle Cramps At Night Be Treated?

Hi. I am a 53 year old female who has lumbar spondylosis and osteo arthritis. I have been exercising and dieting since January and took off 60 lbs. In the middle of the night when I wake up, my muscles are so sore I can t fall back asleep. How safe are muscle relaxers to take? I was on prescription ibuprophens for 20 years and my kidney function went down to 30% functioning because of them. I do not want to get on another prescription like that again. Also, my eyes are very dry when I wake up almost to the point of feeling like sand paper. What can I do about those?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Sore muscles are due to arthritis issues you are experiencing.

I think you can take magnesium, it will help ease the soreness without taking any NSAIDs.
Can ask your caring doctor to prescribe muscle relaxants, but not on regular basis. Magnesium is better especially if combined with calcium and vitamin D, and K2.

Hope this helps.
