Hi welcome to Healthcaremagic,
Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional gastrointestinal disorder, the cause is not well known. The treatment is also not complete, but with dietery modifications and drugs you will have a normal routine. You must be having IBS-D or diarrhoea predominant Irritable bowel syndrome. Since you have mentioned that the gastroenterologist diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I suppose you must have underwent investigations to rule out other gastrointestinal causes of your symptoms, if not reply we'll be able to guide you.
From your symptoms of loose stools I feel the treatment will need a change in diet followed by drugs.
In diet, completely avoid milk and milk products since most patients with Irritable bowel syndrome will have a component of lactose intolerance. Later you may need to try a low FODMAP diet but it's difficult to stick on. Please reply if you want more details on low FODMAP diet. I would suggest a preparation of Ispagula husk, which contain soluble fibre and is effective diarrhoea to maintain stool consistency.
A probiotic preparation should also be taken. NORMAXIN tab you are now taking helps tackle the neurological aspect of your disease.
With these measures majority of the diarrhoea predominant Irritable bowel syndrome will come in control. Anti diarrheal medications like opiods and opioid analogous are needed only in severe cases.
I'm sure you will be all right in a month.
Do reply.
Thank you.
