How Can Irregular Periods While Suffering From PCOS Be Treated?

Hi doctor so I ve been diagnosed for PCOS I ve had surgeries and various physical examinations Everytime I miss my period for two months and it comes on the third month It s usually very very heavy and it lasts for a long time Recently I took primolut n when it last happened I had bled for about 31 days before I decided to take drugs to stop the bleeding I took primolut n it stopped the bleeding but after a while I started bleeding again at first I thought it was normal period but it s been going on for a while about 10 days or so and normally I ve 5. Days of period I m sure this is an effect of the drug primolut n before now I was taking it once daily But I don t know if I m meant to increase the dosage after a while

Hi,

PCOS is a hormonal problem interfering with ovulation and that's why the period gets irregular and varied the bleeding pattern.

Primolut N is a hormonal preparation blocking profuse bleeding yet not correcting basic ovulation defect. So the cause keeps on working and the condition cannot be cured.

In case one wants to get regular and normal periods in PCOS, ovulation needs to be reset to normality. This can be tried with high dose hormonal cyclical therapy for minimum 3 months (Krimson 35)/ovulation stimulation by Clomiphenes/Laparoscopic drilling of the polycystic ovary. The type and dosage of the therapy would be decided by treating gynecologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
