How Can Intestinal Pinworm Infection Be Treated?

I have pinworms. Took medication for it almost a week ago. How do I know if they are dead? I have a haemorrhoid so I don t know if the occasional itch is pinworms still laying eggs or just my haemorrhoid itching. 3 days After taking the medicine I thought I saw a bunch of them in my stool, but they were red instead of the white worms I had found before taking the medicine. Was that dead pinworms?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

To get rid of pinworm infestation, you need to take a tablet. Albendazole orally after food. A second dose needs to taken within a week to ten days after taking the first dose.

Symptoms of itching may persist for few more days until the wound heals completely. You can take Tablet. Levocetirizine if itching cannot be tolerated.

Application of moisturizer cream at bedtime would also help. Gradually, your symptoms should subside completely.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
