How Can I Reduce My Pain?

I have interstitial cystitis and chronic urethra titis. I need a cystoscope performed to tule out possibility of other problems since my pain has escalated these last few months and there could be something else wrong. I have had IC for more than 15 years. What can I do or ask the doctor to do to help make this procedure and recovery easiest and with minimal pain? Thank you, Jamie

Urologist 's  Response
Well, Interstitial cystitis is diagnosed when other causes have been ruled out. If history and routine examinations r not suggestive if any other cause , u need Cystourehtroscopy.
Management for interstitial cystitis includes lifestyle changes like reduce water intake, avoid smoking, tra or coffee or anything that provokes symptoms.
Amytryptiline 10mg should be prescribed. This may be increased upto 20 mg once daily. Anticholinergics like Solifenacin or Tolterodine may be of sone help.
If this does not help, u may require DMSO intravesical instillation.
