How Can Hypothyroidism And Fatty Liver Be Treated?

I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, shrunken liver surrounded by fatty tissue, possible liver cirrhosis, and after CT scan and a sleep study both suggested I get some vascular or peripheral artery testing done. I recently heard of PBC. can I or should I be tested for PBC?

Hello,

If you do have cirrhosis then your doctor should try to identify a cause. PBC is indeed one of the potential causes but other causes will have to be investigated as well. Chronic hepatitis C or B, alcohol consumption, certain drugs (amiodarone for example), fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, primary sclerosis cholangitis, hemochromatosis and other disorders may be implicated or contribute to it.

Your doctor should conduct appropriate testing based on your medical history to confirm (or exclude) cirrhosis and identify the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
