Hi, Iam a 43 yr old female. I have got hyperpigmentation on my face specially on cheeks. I visited a doctor yesterday and i have been asked to use Melacare cream on my face only at bedtime for lightening the pigmentation and spots and she advised me to use Sunban sunscreen to protect my skin. However, after reading the long term usage harmful effects on the skin , iam very scared to use it. I have used it only for a day and i was considering getting microdermabrasion/ chemical peels instead of using this cream. Can anyone suggest which is better and why? What will be the long term effect of getting these treatments on my face
You are having a condition called melasma, which is the over-production of melanin pigments. It is usually seen in peri-menopausal females. There are several factors that may cause it like- sun exposure, pregnancy, hormonal treatments like oral contraceptive pills. Mechanical treatments are available for melasma, though its complete efficacy has not been proved. There are chances for it to recur. The topical treatments prescribed by your doctor requires patience and quite a long time for the patches to disappear, which also requires life long sun protection creams on the areas involved.
I hope this helps. Thank you
