How Can Hot Oil Splashing In The Eye Accidentally Be Treated?

A drop of Hot cooking oil splashed into my eye about 45 mins ago. It hurt and then I flushed with cool water but it is still feeling like a burning sensation. My eye is not tearing though. I think my vision is fine. Should I put cool compresses on eyelid or ice? Should I use moisture only eye drops? When would I need it to be checked out by a doctor? Thx!

Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

You can do the following firstline management before seeking medical help.:-
(1)-Splash cold water on the affected eye for fifteen minutes.
(2)-Blink your eye again and again to helps your tears flow.
(3)-Apply cold compresses over the affected eye, keep it there untill you reach an ophthalmologist.
(4) Do not rub your eyes and do not apply any eye drops before consulting a doctor.
Although your vision is good,it is always better to consult a doctor at earliest. A slit lamp examination may be needed to look for any minor abrasion on your cornea or any undetected burns in the eye.
You can use protective glasses while dealing with hot oils and caustic chemicals.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
Dr.Shinas Hussain
