How Can Headache Along With Bodyache And Sore Throat Be Treated?

Hopefully, my nephew is away in a baseball camp and very sick. He went to an urgent care center today and they did a throat culture because he has had Strep in the past. He is not running a fever, but does have a very bad headache, body pain and very sore throat. although he did eat macroni and cheese tonight. He is going back to the urgent care center and thank God the family he is staying with has a Nurse in the family. He was with friends last week and one of the kids had strep but his culture came back negative?

Hi,

If your nephew had a negative throat culture for strep infection and if he is having no fever very likely he is not having a strep infection. Viral infections can sometimes cause a patient to have bad throat pain and feel really unwell but should be better in 4-5 days. Meanwhile he can take Paracetamol and Ibuprofen to help with pain and avoid hot drinks. He can take cold drinks to help with the throat pain.

Making sure he is drinking frequent small amount of fluids is important. If the symptoms are lasting longer than a week or he is getting any worse he will need to have another visit with the doctor.
