How Can Gangrene Be Treated?
Curious as to length of time it takes for gangrene to travel to your heart. The gangrene is located in both feet, some toes have already been amputated. Dealing with both dry and wet gangrene, blood flow below the knee is very restricted. Have chosen not to amputate at the knee on both legs. This info is all about my father (89 yrs old). He has had heart valve replacement done and his cardiologist believes the infection will be his demise within a month.

There are some differences in management between wet gangrene and dry gangrene. Wet gangrene is caused by acute blood flow insufficiency, and the course of ischemia is fast and progressive and infection risk, as well as complications, are high. Treatment includes surgical cleaning and removal of dead tissue plus high oxygen supply ( hyperbaric oxygen is required). In dry gangrene the ischemia is gradual, and treatment includes amputation. Gangrene is a highly fatal condition and the course is very unpredictable ranging between a few days in severe wet gangrene to few weeks if untreated. I highly recommend that you seek medical help and initiate surgical treatment.
