How Can Future Surgeries For Degenerative Disc Disease Be Avoided?

HI, I have two rods and 10 screws in my lower back, and two rods in my upper back, I have degenative disc decease, I am 62, I have work very hard all my life, the Doctor I have is very good, I can only lift 10 lbs. I am doing alright, my neck snaps and cracks all the time, I had my top two rods put in sept. of 2013, which is my fifth major back surgery, I also have electronic stimulator in my low back to control pain, it works, Question - will I have any more surgeries in the future, I ask my doctor and he said to avoid anymore surgeries is not to get old? What do you think, I can walk fine, I once was at a point when I could not walk. Thank you. Jerome Hessling

Hello. It is difficult to know if surgery will be needed in the future to treat degenerative disc disease. Aging is an unfavorable factor, it is true. You should control your weight, preventing obesity. Moreover, before the surgery your doctor should try conservative treatments such as physiotherapy or local infiltrations.
I wish you good health.
