Very good question. BP flluctuates from a variety of internal causes and on how you read it with the cuff. a true reading of systolic > 200 and/or the lower number > 120 is quite serious and needs medical attention. THere is a large grey area for what numbers are perfect. Without signs of fainting, there might not be a lower limit to the blood pressure. Frequently, I've seen people with 60/30 bp's that are fine (the blood pressure reader misfires). The ideal number is tricky. we find some increase in stroke if the numbers go too low too fast (130's / 80's is safe). but there is lower risk of heart disease the lower the number. The risk doesn't go up very much until the upper number is over 140 and/or the lower number is over 100.
