How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

My sister is taking hydrochlorothiazide for her high blood pressure. She also has macular degeneration, and this med is making her vision worse. Is there any other way she can reduce her high blood pressure? Any foods that would help? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and understand your concern. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic which may be worsening her macular degeneration. It is advisable to put her on a different antihypertensive like a calcium channel blocker like amlodipine which is also an effective option. You can discuss this with her physician. With that salt restriction and low cholesterol diet should be followed. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
