How Can Dry Mouth Be Treated While On Medication For Depression?

Hello,
I have a extreem problem with dry mouth. I think it is a side effect of 5 drugs I am taking for Depression - BiPolar illness. All suggest they have dry mouth as a side effect.

Is there a prescription drug available to help this problem ? OTC Biotene does not give any relief

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, it is true that dry mouth is one of the most commonly seen complication of anti depressants and you are suffering with the same..

So if possible for you consult your Physician and discuss about changing the drugs or dose reduction with close monitoring of the symptoms can be done..

For symptomatic relief from the dry mouth you can start chewing sugar free chewing gum as they help in stimulation of saliva flow..
Suck lemon drops..
You can buy oral lubricant gels and mouth drops containing Methlycellulose, Xylitol etc to lubricate the mouth..
You can also keep sipping water at regular intervals..
You can also be advised Pilocarpine that is an OTC drug to improve salivation..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
