How Can Dizziness Be Treated?

I have awakened the last two mornings with dizziness. I sit up in bed and it s starts to diminish, but at times during the day I make some move that causes a slight stir. I have been checked before for BPPV and results were negative. Could this possibly be some type of virus, and what can I do to possibly alleviate the dizziness?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptom of dizziness for last 2 days can even be something related to basic lifestyle problems. Inadequate water intake, inappropriate diet, lack of sleep or good quality sleep, alcohol or certain drugs, anxiety and excess stress, lack of exercise or sedentary lifestyle are few things which can be taken care of at the first place.

Hydration among all the above is one of the most important and most neglected matters along with one or more of the other lifestyle issues mentioned. Other few things can be things like anemia that is low hemoglobin in blood, inner ear related issues like Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), heart dysfunction (age and other history is important), some neurological causes can also give rise to such symptoms.

Although there are various things that may cause the symptom, the first thing that can be done is to fix the lifestyle issues if any (some mentioned above), considering the fact that the symptom just started 2 days ago.

If the symptom still persists, then the ideal thing will be to get a thorough workup from a general physician or a specialist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Md Eftekhar
