Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad had an angioplasty a long time ago. When they did the procedure they damaged the nerve in his leg. He now has trouble walking and basically is losing the ability to use his leg. Can this be treated in anyway? Is this a question of a caridiologist or a neuro dr?
If the surgery was a long time ago and therefore the injury to the nerve in the leg, the best options for treatment would be a neurologist and physiotherapist.
The neurologist can assess the degree of nerve damage, at this stage , surgical repair of the nerve is not possible but he or she can determine if trauma to the nerve is the only cause of his deficit. Blood tests may be need to rule out other treatable cause.
The physiotherapist would be able to demonstrate exercises that would promote strength of the leg and help him regain mobility. This is very important. His GP or the neurologist may be able to refer him to a good neurologist.
I hope this helps
