How Can Diarrhea In An Infant Be Treated?

My daughter is 26 months old. She was passing loose stools so gave her a course of antibiotics within the last month.. entimizole, I flex, qplex.. but since then hasn t really recovered for long.. passes stools as soon as she eats smthing..yesterday I think it was 6 stools in a day, I try to keep her hydrated, she feels quite hungry but can t retain any food, lost weight as well. We travel every 2,3 months back home so she always gets sick.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Usually I prescribe Probiotics to infants who are having diarrhea. And avoid diary products until the loose stool stops. It is important to keep the baby well hydrated. Try some Oral Rehydration Salt sachets. You can also encourage them to popsickles. Sometimes change in water, food, environment can also cause diarrhea in infants. As long as the baby is active, playful and not throwing up, you can try with probiotics. If the baby is severely dehydrated or loosing weight, better to consult your local Paediatrician.
