How Can Diarrhea Due To Food Poisoning Be Treated?
My whole family had some kind of gastro bug 8 days ago, however my two children are still presenting with diarrhoea and my eldest has started vomiting again today. Do you have any suggestions for testing beyond microbial? We are waiting on results for that tomorrow. Our GP has said to just keep their fluids up, but I feel something should be done for them as they have been ill like this for 10 and 11 days each. They are 6 and 8 years of age
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Food poisoning is just a possible cause and if the case, symptomatic management with fluids will do.Persistence of symptoms for more than 1 week suggest a cause to investigate and treat.Possible causes include digestive infection by a virus, bacterium or a parasite.A stool exam/culture will be very helpful. While waiting for the results, you may give them oral rehydration salt, zinc tablets and an antidiarrheal like imodium. You may also encourage them to take some bananas and enough fluids. The etiologic management will be after the results of the stool exam.Your Doctor will help you with that. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
